Judge rules in favor of public access and use on Utah’s rivers

Many of us love fishing in Utah. So, this is very exciting, and important to river lovers in every state across the country. Yesterday, the Utah Stream Access Coalition announced that access to Utah's river and streams has been restored.

While this is do-a-backflip-into-the-river news, there are some important things to keep in mind. Before fishermen can venture back toward the re-opened waters, there's still a short waiting game, as the State must comply with this ruling and update its enforcement policies.

And when it’s time, the USAC board reminders fishermen: Be respectful of private property and property owners.  Pick up trash.  Use best angling practices.  Don’t gain access to the river by any way other than a public access point, easement or right-of-way.

Most importantly, no matter where you live, remember that public lands should not be taken for granted. They can be lost before you even knew it was possible to lose them. Stay up to date on your state’s stream access law and who might be looking for a bigger piece of the pie than they need.

Finally, the opposition is expected to appeal the ruling, which means more legal costs for USAC. So, if you’d like to stay involved, please consider donating to the cause by clicking here.
