Meredith McCord

Fishpond Ambassador

Meredith McCord, entrepreneur and business owner in Houston, TX, like many avid fishermen began to fish about the time she learned how to walk.   As the years passed by, she exchanged her cane pole for a spinning rod, then in 1996 picked up her first fly rod in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.  Having successfully run her retail chain of paint-your-own-pottery studios for over 16 years (since 1998), she is now able to focus on and pursue her passion for fly fishing.  This first started with trips to distant fisheries with her father, such as the Seychelles, Christmas Island, Venezuela and Belize.  From there her addiction grew and Meredith began to set her sights on the challenge of landing IGFA world records.  In 2011, Meredith landed her first record on the fly, 32lbs Red Drum on 16lbs.  In 2012,  she was invited to be apart of the cast of Tom Browkaw's Buccaneers and Bones TV series that airs on the Outdoor Channel.   Thanks to her amazing staff at The Mad Potter, Meredith has found the time to work part-time for Tailwaters Fly Fishing Travel, out of Dallas, Texas, as a lodge scout, brand ambassador and trip hostess.  When not scouting or hosting a trip for Tailwaters, Meredith is found chasing records or in her home waters with a fly rod in hand, stalking fish on flats, or looking for ideal river and lake sight fishing opportunities.

When she is not at work or on the water, Meredith spends time with her parents, siblings and 6 nieces and nephew, leads mission trip to help underprivileged communities, teaches children's worship at her church and, to keep in shape, spends her time training for and competing in triathlons throughout Texas.  She is passionate about many things in this earth, but her biggest love is for the Creator of it all.

With the knowledge that the future and success of our little fly fishing industry is all about passing "it" onto the next generation, Meredith is very active with Bone Tarpon Trust, helping preserve and educate anglers on our ocean's bonefish, tarpon and permit fisheries from the Bahamas and Gulf Coast to Cuba, Mexico and Belize.  She also supports TU, CCA Texas, DU and serves as a IGFA representative in Texas.
